Today is my very first day as a 'proper' part-time freelance illustrator. Over the last 2 years or so, I've been squeezing projects in around my full-time job, often working through weekends and late into the night.
Luckily, my employers - the good folk at fish in a bottle - listened to my request for flexible working and, more importantly, agreed to it. From today, I'll be working a 4-day week for them and spending the remaining day at home (or hotdesking if I find I'm getting too distracted), working on projects, folio pieces and generally getting on top of all the stuff that needs sorting out, like paperwork and backing-up files etc.
Admittedly, this will mean I'll be taking a 20% pay-cut, which is a little bit scary. If everything goes according to plan though, my upcoming illustration projects will more than cover this shortfall.
I'll post further updates on how this works out as and when there's anything interesting to report, but for know I'd better get on with some drawing ;)
