A while ago I was approached by a student at the National Film & Television School to create some background images for a game project she was working on. I don't often get asked to work on stuff that isn't character based, but having worked in the games industry for many years, I've turned my hand to everything from pixelly sprites to 3D environments, so felt that taking on this might be a slightly different challenge.
The brief was to create two backdrops against which a variety of characters would interact. The settings were based on locations in South America - a colourful village and a lush rain-forest. One of the most enjoyable parts of this project was collecting reference material and seeing how far I could push the shapes and colours. I was really happy with how they turned out and who knows...maybe I'll turn my hand to more background work in the future.
