Illustrator Luke Flowers spent countless childhood hours drawing wildly imaginative worlds and quirky characters on his grandfather’s drawing desk (a cherished gift after his grandfather passed away). Deeply inspired by the work of Dr. Seuss, Shel Silverstein & Jim Henson, Luke decided in 2nd grade that he too wanted to be a full time artists and inspire others to pursue their dreams. His love of art led him to Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design, where he earned a BFA in illustration and graduated in 2000. After ten years working for Young Life in the Creative Services Department, he launched Luke Flowers Creative, a company that seeks to “bring the illumination of imagination” to every project. Luke currently lives in Colorado Springs, CO. with his wife and 3 kids. When he is not illustrating in his creative cave, he enjoys strumming on a banjo or writing stories and reading favorite children's books with his kids. His current dream is to write and illustrate his own books, and do more gallery work. For now, he is deeply grateful for each day he is given the opportunity to create and live out his childhood dream.
Oops. Forgot to mention - my favorite animal is an Octopus. Favorite artist and most influential creative of mine is Jim Henson (hence the Kermit reference)
Question 1 : Baseball or Basketball?
Basketball (I was the “big man on campus” back in my High School days, won the first state championship for our school along side my older brother. I was going to either go to college on a basketball scholarship or an art scholarship ... I sure am glad I went with the art scholarship and art school!!)
Question 2 : The Simpsons or Family Guy?
Honestly, neither. My current favorite is Regular Show, and ones I love watching with my kiddos are Gravity Falls, Wander over Yonder and Clarence. Brilliant characters and clever writing every episode.
Question 3 : Hip-hop or Opera?
I would actually listen to every other type of music except those two. Well, and maybe some pop tunes. Most days in the creative cave are soundtracked by sad singer songwriters, classic & 80’s rock, dark bluegrass, or quirky electronic bands. Ryan Adams, Talking Heads, Johnny Cash, 16 Horsepower and Daft Punk (or The Books) are my go to favorites.
Question 4 : Photoshop or Illustrator?
Photoshop. All day. Everyday
Question 5 : Sweet or Savoury?
Tough call. Sweets win out based solely on the sweet flavor of coconut. Some folks are crazy about Pumpkin Spice, but I’m a coconut junkie. Especially ice cream. But my wife is a wonderfully talented cook so I am spoiled with some fresh & savory flavors every meal.
