Humour has always been top of Fred's list when it comes to drawing
Right from those early (rather unflattering) portraits of teachers, Fred knew he wanted to entertain with his work. Now writing and illustrating his own, very silly picture books - Fred couldn't be happier.
Fred has illustrated dozens of books. His own Captain Falsebeard series was published in 2015 (Puffin), in addition to author collaborations with; Will Mabbitt This is Not A Bedtime Story series (Puffin), Michelle Robinson The Forgetful Knight (Dial USA) / Grandmas from Mars (Bloomsbury), Julia Jarman Fussy Freda (Hodder), the Knightmare fiction series, Peter Bently (Stripes).
Fred's latest author / illustrated title Santa Claus Vs The Easter Bunny has just been released for Christmas 2018 (Andersen Press). "Wonderfully bonkers" - Jim Field
Clients include: Penguin Random House, Andersen Press, Bloomsbury, Hodder, Dial USA, Little Tiger Press, Usborne, Collins, Kingfisher, Blue Apple USA, BBC...and many others.
Fred lives in Wiltshire, with his wife, two children and their retired Greyhound, Olive.
Both cool as cucumbers, obvs. But for me it's got to be Indiana Jones. The hat, the leather jacket, the old school swashbuckling, the whip. Actually, not sure about the whip, but come on - all that is cooler than a blaster and a waist coat, surely? Also the archaeology aspect is giddyingly exciting for a history geek like me.
Beer or Wine? Well, that is an impossible question if ever I saw one. That's like asking me to choose between my two children. I simply can't do it. OK - beer when I'm out in a pub situation (and when I say beer, I mean a nice continental lager - I haven't gotten into this craft ale business) and a nice full bodied Merlot or Shiraz at home.
Road Trip or Staycation? Hmmm... not a massive fan of travelling (the actual being in transit bit of it). Love going on holiday, but driving and traffic jams are not my scene. So I guess staycation. But in truth I would never attempt to holiday at home, as I'd just get stuck into work!
Box-set Binge or a Good Book?
Obviously I'm all about the books, but honestly I spend far more time watching series on Netflix than reading. Actually, I'm struggling for a good series at the moment, if you have any suggestions?
Puppies or Kittens?
Puppies every time. Nothing against kittens, but I'm well and truly a dog man. Having said that, I've never actually had a puppy. I've only ever got dogs from shelters and my latest is a lovely retired greyhound called Olive. The perfect studio companion - sleeps all day, doesn't bother barking at the door - marvellous.
